Tassajara Creek Trail
The Tassajara Creek Trail is located in the southeast portion of Mount Diablo State Park (MDSP), between Highland Ridge Road and Riggs Canyon Road.  The original 1.25 mile section of the trail, which largely runs parallel to the Tassajara Creek, was build by the East Bay Trail Dogs in 2003.  At that time the property (known as the “Silva property”) was owned by Save Mount Diablo, but was later transferred to MDSP.  This original section of the Tassajara Creek Trail has also been referred to as the “Trillium Trail” due to the abundance of Trillium plants growing alongside the trail.
In 2009, at the request of MDSP, the East Bay Trail Dogs built a 0.75 mile extension of the Tassajara Creek Trail to bypass most of the (now-abandoned) Bob’s Pond Fire Road.  A picnic table, also built by the East Bay Trail Dogs, is located where the original and new sections of the trail meet, overlooking Bob’s Pond.

The end of the hike!

(1) The hike begins across the road from the Red Corral on Morgan Creek Road.  To the left is Morgan Ridge Road, which you will be descending to complete the hike.
(2) At 0.45 miles Morgan Creek Road bends to the left.  Follow the trail sign and turn right onto the single-track Jeremiah Creek Trail.
(3) At 1.10 miles Jeremiah Creek Trail ends at Old Finley Road.  Cross Old Finley Road, and head uphill on Highland Ridge Road.
(4) At 1.85 miles turn left onto the Tassajara Creek Trail.  This section of the Tassajara Creek Trail follows the first part of the (now-abandoned) Bob’s Pond Fire Road.
(5) At 2.05 miles, follow the sign and veer right to continue on the Tassajara Creek Trail, which becomes a single-track trail.  This portion of the Tassajara Creek Trail was built by the East Bay Trail Dogs in 2009 to bypass the abandoned Bob’s Pond Fire Road.
(6) At 2.80 miles you’ll reach a picnic bench.  This is a good spot to relax, have a bite to eat, or just enjoy the views.  When you’re ready, continue on the Tassajara Creek Trail.  This is the “original” portion of the trail built by the East Bay Trail Dogs in 2003.
(7) At 3.70 miles you see a sign indicating the trail continues to the left.  Follow the sign, and continue downhill on the Tassajara Creek Trail.
(8) At 3.75 miles the trail crosses the Tassajara Creek.  Even in the wet season, the creek is easy to cross with just a minor bit of rock-hopping.
(9) At 4.05 miles the Tassajara Creek Trail ends.  Turn left to continue the hike uphill on Old Finley Road.
(10) At 4.25 miles you’ll reach the intersection of Old Finley Road and Highland Ridge Road.  If you want to shorten the hike, continue a very short distance on Old Finley Road, and turn right on Jeremiah Creek Trail to retrace your steps to the trailhead.  To continue on the featured hike, turn right and head uphill on Highland Ridge Road.
(11) At 4.70 miles, you’ll reach the intersection of Highland Ridge Road and Morgan Creek Road.  This is your last chance to shorten the hike, which you can do by turning left on Morgan Creek Road and heading downhill 0.90 miles back to the trailhead.  To continue on the featured hike, continue straight on Highland Ridge Road.
(12) At 5.00 miles you’ll reach the intersection of Highland Ridge Road and Crestview Road.  Continue straight on Highland Ridge Road.
(13) At 5.50 miles, turn left onto Morgan Ridge Road and continue downhill.  The summit of Mount Diablo and North Peak dominate the views.
(14) At 6.35 miles you arrive back at the trailhead.
